Dr Ritwick Chaterjee
I aim to create awareness and break the stigma about mental health illnesses.
I trained in my MD in Psychiatry from Nair Hospital, Mumbai. With helpful teachers and mentors, I had the opportunity to be trained in Child and Adolescent mental health, Geriatric mental health and Deaddiction. I was also responsible for holding group awareness for these as well as sexual disorders. After completing my MD I decided to train further in Child Psychiatry and was responsible for certification in specific learning disabilities and Autism Spectrum disorders.
I was also awarded the J.C. Marfatia award for best research in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (Senior Category) in India in 2019. I then pursued a Post Doctoral Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry before starting my journey as a consultant psychiatrist.
During my journey in this field, I realized two really important lessons when it comes to Psychiatry. First, is that the stigma against a mental health illness can sometimes create more dysfunction than the mental illness itself. Second, that each person is a unique identity. They have a unique brain with a unique biology. One cannot generalize treatment approaches and it has to be personalized according to each individual. These two lessons form the basis of my approach towards understanding mental health and helping individuals lead a better life.
Let’s connect and collaborate, shall we?
